Recap of January Dinner Meeting

01-09   34 Lions and guests were in attendance.

Our speakers, Mike Pride and Mark Travis each gave a short presentation about lost stories.  Mike spoke on his most recent which was co-published with Steve Raymond, a survivor of the Bataan Death March during World War 11.  His book is for sale at $25.00.  Books sold the night of the meeting, $5.00 per book was donated to NH Sight & Hearing Foundation.

Mark Travis spoke on research he did on a civil war soldier from the Canterbury area and some interesting facts he was able to locate in a short period of time, such as he died in Gettysburg, his wife died just before he did, leaving a daughter.

Nancy Peterson won the dinner drawing.

Cell Phone Tid Bit

Cell phone companies are charging us $1.00 to $1.75 or more for 411 information calls when they don’t have to.  Most of us do not carry a telephone directory in our vehicle, which makes this situation even more of a problem.

When you need to use the 411 information option, simply dial 1 (800) FREE 411, 0r 1-800-373-3411 without incurring any charge at all.

This works on your home telephone as well.

Family Membership

Let’s increase our Exeter Lions membership by inviting our relatives.  Lions Clubs International offers a reduced dues rate to its members that bring in members of their family.

For the purpose of the Family Dues Structure, “family” includes all members in and/or joining the same club living in the same household related by birth, marriage, and other legal means, including such common family relations as parents, children, spouses, aunts/uncles, cousins, grandparents and in-laws of spouses.

Family rates are:  The first family member, either being a current or newly inducted member, shall pay full annual Int. dues ($39) and any applicable entrance fee.  Up to four more subsequent qualifying family members over the age of 18 living in the same household and joining the same club shall pay one-half of the standard annual dues ($19.50) and no association entrance fees.

Our club secretary must complete the family unit certification form verifying family unit verification.

Let’s bring in some of our household relatives to help in our community services.

For more information on family memberships, contact the membership committee or Sec. Karen Baillargeon.
