Lions
Club International, the largest service organization in the world, started
in 1917 as the dream of a Chicago insurance
man named Melvin Jones. Today, you
find Lions Clubs in 205 countries around the globe, and in over 80 clubs here
in New Hampshire. A great many of
these clubs are represented at this event, the New Hampshire Lions
Haunted House!
In 1925, Helen Keller challenged the Lions to become "the knights of the blind in their crusade against the darkness." From that day to this, the prevention of blindness has been our major effort, both here in New Hampshire and internationally.
Other major service efforts include hearing conservation, diabetes research, (a major cause of blindness), and drug and alcohol abuse prevention.
In order to help local NH Lions meet the visual and auditory needs of their community, the NH Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation, a 501-C3 Charitable organization, was founded so that projects beyond the ability of a single club might not go unanswered.
The proceeds of this year's Haunted House will go to this foundation's work.
No money raised in this or any Lions Project goes to administration of the organization.
This is the fourteenth year the NH Lions Haunted House has been putting on shows .
